How George Miles Almost Saved the World - AdultM: [Good]
This is a kind of black humor sf piece that originally appeared in YARF!. Not particularly erotic and not violent at all, but it does spoof the "Sex Vixen" story cliche in furrydom. Some people have told me this is one of the more disturing stories I've written.

Playing the Hero's RoleM: [Good]
This was the first (acknowledged) Ranea story, originally published in FurVersion 10, and may still have the most about the world and its setting. (If you get lost in other Ranea stories, reading this one first may help.) Fluffy story, no sex, not much violence, and reminds me disquietingly of a Stephen Cannell script. Has a mostly happy ending, so don't whine I never write them.

The Cattle King - Adult
A horror story, set in the lands of Ranea but before the founding of the Empire. Wins my personal award for most disturbing story I've done. Has a gratuitous sex scene, but it's entirely off-camera and you can ignore it if it makes you happier (it's not essential to the story other than binding the two main characters on a deeper level than good friends).

WoundsM: [Very Good]
Published in WildLife APAzine #1 and Caffeine Quarterly 2-3 as a short serial, this is the second story with Jemara the vampire bat (and the first one featuring her that actually has a plot). No ratings warning other than profanity, and as a local friend said, "Like, this is real intense." It is.

Flying Companion - AdultM: [Very Good]
A story I've known--or at least, I've known pieces of it--for a while; some of it was in my mind before I had finished "A gift of Fire, A gift of Blood," to which this short could be termed a "back story" to. There are back stories, at least in principle, for the three main characters in that tale. This one is the only one in real story form, probably because I knew it'd be the easiest to write. Since there isn't anywhere to "put" this story for publication (I wrote it mostly for my own benefit, anyway), its appearance on the furry ftp site will likely be its only one.

Both this story and "The Lighthouse" (currently running in YARF!) deal, in different ways, with vampire bat psychology. Until a bat decided you were worth talking to, she would have a small voice in the back of her head chastizing her for, in effect, trying to be cordial to a Big Mac. This should not be held against them; it is quite literally in their nature (they were created with magic they themselves are not aware of, which also is responsible for both an inability to thrive without actually hunting live food and an extremely strong innate attraction toward sapient prey). I only bring this up as a partial explanation, if not excuse, for some scenes in this piece which more sensitive readers might find disturbing.

A gift of Fire, A gift of Blood - AdultM: [Very Good]
This story originally appeared in the fanzine YARF!, running from issues five through eight. The original version featured seven illustrations (four full-page) by Zjonni Perchalski. Those back issues are still available (the cover price is $3 apiece except for #6, which has a price of $4, but the reprint price may have increased); contact them at YARF!, P.O. Box 1200, Cupertino, CA 95015-1200 for more information.

While I was generally happy with the published version of "Gift," there were a few changes the editors made I didn't agree with (or find out about until it was printed -- although in fairness, I readily admit they are sufficiently small that it might take me days to find them again now). More importantly, there are differences in the way I would have handled some things if I was writing the story now than I did a year ago.

If you have read the original version, you can rest assured that there is no change in the plot, either development or outcome; some of the details have been refined. When a publisher friend and I talked about the possibility of producing a "collected limited" edition featuring the original story and one or two others featuring the same characters (bringing the total volume up to novel length), I knew I would want to rewrite "Gift." Although the collected volume is still in the planning stages, what you have in your hands (or on your screen) is the first draft of the rewritten version.

Rabbit Pens - AdultM: [Very Good]
This is a Ranea story only on technicality (a Ranean main character, but a mostly off-world setting); it also explores some potentially disturbing areas my other stories rarely venture near (dominance and submission). And, it's probably the most bluntly sexual piece I've written.
