I usually don't think of myself as an author. If I called myself an author, that would imply that I come up with my own ideas--that I think my own characters up, for example. And sometimes, I believe that's true. But most of the time, I can't shake the suspicion that the characters think themselves up. Then they show up on my doorstep--probably because the people on the list who can actually write are already booked solid--and wait for me to do something intelligent with them. So I feel kind of bad when a story misfires; I feel like I've let the character down.

Greywing showed up a few weeks ago. This is the best home I've been able to come up with for him so far. It's far from my best--it has pretty much every "wrong thing to do in a short story" from our recent discussion on the list. Please don't hold it against him. :-)

Field Trip
This was written May 1, 1996. It was the first story I had written in several years, and that shows in a variety of ways. :-) Still, it got enough positive feedback to get me to keep writing...

This story is part of the The Circe Treatment series from the TSA-Talk mailing list, and you'll find that things make more sense if you read the first two stories in that series--Shell Game and Reassignment--first.

Wishes
I wrote most of this story in September, as an entry for a contest that Magus The Fox was running for his archive. The contest deadline got moved up by a day somewhere along the way, and I received the contest results while I was still finishing up the last part--always a disheartening sign. :-) So I wound up shelving the story for a few weeks. In retrospect, that was probably a good thing, since the ending wound up being quite a bit better than the one I originally had in mind.

I've pretty much given up on figuring out people's reaction to my stories. I don't care that much for this one at all, but most people seem to like it much better than I do...

Outfoxed
I wrote this in two parts, of July 1997. It didn't get much feedback at all, and I really didn't care for the way it was going--I had some good plot ideas in mind, but it seemed too melodramatic for my tastes. But now that I look at it again, it's starting to grow on me a little; I may finish this up one of these days. If you have any suggestions for a plot, please forward them to me at your earliest convenience. :-)
Miavir:Not Furry, but still unfinished, it looks to be coming soon.
